Half Cell Potentiometer is an efficient method of evaluating steel reinforcement corrosion in areas which may not show visible signs of corrosion. Using CANIN+ system, a comprehensive Half Cell test of the site provides a very good assessment of locations where corrosion is likely to take place. In addition to the half-cell potential method, Wenner probe is used for electrical resistivity measurements of concrete which has been empirically proven to give an estimate of the corrosion rate.

Early diagnosis of seemingly healthy concrete cover and reinforcement status allows pre-emptive corrosion control measures and thereby to reduce unwanted risks to structural safety and people. Analysis of the data also allows corrective maintenance to be localized. With the depth of Carbonation and Chloride tests, one can evaluate mechanisms that have been causing corrosion and this could be the basis of designing the optimum repair system.
